Preparing For Your Session

Okay, you found the perfect photographer and made an appointment for your session, but now what?  We’ve got a few suggestions to make sure you come out looking like a super model. Trust us, we know what looks good!

Also, don’t feel shy about asking to include things that make you who you are, such as your pet, your car, your boyfriend/girlfriend, etc. Hey, we won’t even charge extra for these things ‘cause that’s not our style.

Get Your Stuff Ready The Day Before

Nothing can be worse than waiting until the last minute to scoop up your clothing and accessories, and then end up having forgotten something important like a pair of shoes for your session (true story!)  Make sure to get everything you want to bring along ready the day before.  This way you have overnight to think of any items you may still need and you won't be in "panic mode" when it's time to leave for your session.  We also have some tips below to help you create the best portraits possible.

Clothing...

  • Dark or bright solid colors photograph best in studio. Sleeveless is a no-no but your call.
  • Most seniors choose a mix of casual and formal looks.
  • When choosing your outfits, the most important thing is that they say something about you!
  • Bring a variety of choices, whether we use all of them or not.
  • Don’t forget accessories like boots, hats, sporting equipment, sunglasses, and fun jewelry.
  • Don’t be afraid to show your personal style!
  • In some casual outdoor portraits, we will suggest bare feet. That means pedi time!
  • Bring someone along to help carry outfits and to lend a second opinion.
  • Keep your clothing from wrinkling during transportation.
  • For the gals...shoes! shoes! shoes! We like funky or fun shoes. Heels also make your legs look longer, and hey, who doesn’t want longer looking legs?
  • In sports?? Don’t forget to bring along your uniform and sporting equipment.
  • Charter High Students! Don’t forget there is a dress code for yearbook photos. Guys must wear a shirt & tie and gals must wear sleeves.

Hair, Skin and Makeup

  • Brush your teeth shortly before your session. Food between teeth is not attractive!
  • Gals should wear light evening makeup.
  • Simple blemishes can be removed through complimentary retouching.
  • Serious skin problems can be corrected digitally for an extra charge.
  • Guys should remember to shave shortly before your session, unless you want that look.
  • Your hands and fingernails should be clean and groomed. Yup, mani time too!
  • If you’re planning on cutting your hair, make sure to wait at least two weeks for it to settle.
  • Looking to do a quick change up on your hair?  Bring along hair ties, headbands, clips and other accessories to create a quick new style during your session.
  • For those seniors who like to wear caps or hats, we recommend that you do not arrive with your cap or hat on.  Nothing takes longer to undo than hat hair, plus ball caps leave a red mark on your forehead.  We can end your session with your favorite headgear.

Well, that's pretty much about it.

Got questions?  Give Heidi a call and she’ll be
happy to help you. Oh, and don’t forget to keep hydrated -- that means keep a
water bottle or two on hand.
